When you think of Jersey Shore activities, what comes to mind? I know the television show makes a lot of you think of GTL (gym, tan, laundry), public intoxication, and a crazy party scene, but the Jersey Shore is much more. I mean, don’t get me wrong, you can 100% find that, but there are so many awesome things to do in Lavallette, NJ. Growing up, I went to the Shore almost every summer to visit family, so here’s my bucket list for Jersey Shore activities, specifically things to do in Lavallette, NJ.
Jersey Shore Activities
#1. Beach: Head up to the beach and park your butt in a beach chair for the day. It’s an awesome spot to read, take a dip, or even just nap.
#2. Skip stones: The shore has these smooth, flat stones perfect for skipping. I was kind of obsessed with this as a kid, but even as an adult, sometimes I can’t resist.
#3. Collect shells: Ditto to collecting shells…who can resist the perfect seashell?
#4. Visit Seaside Casino Pier: Take a ride on the roller coaster, sky ride, and ferris wheel (or whatever floats your boat). If you can, go on Wednesday and save $$$ with the wrist band. It’s pretty awesome to see how the pier has bounced back post-Sandy.
#5. People watch: This is best done on the Seaside Casino Pier (where some of Jersey Shore was filmed), but you can also see some entertaining sights at the beach, out at night, around town…
#6. Win a prize: Play boardwalk games and win a prize (or not, since they’re all rigged). My fave is always shooting water into the clown’s mouth since you know someone will win that game.
#8. Throw it back with some arcade games: Bring out your inner child and play arcade games to your heart’s content. Seaside Pier does not have a shortage of games!
#9. Breakwater Beach Water Park: If it’s a steamy day, might as well slide down some waterslides!
#10. Walk the boardwalk: Exercise and entertainment all at once, what more could you ask for?
#11. Play a Round of Mini golf: I can’t say no to an evening of mini golf on a summer’s night.
#12. Chase the Ice Cream Truck: No, this is not geared toward just children. As a full grown adult (or am I really an adult at 27?), I definitely still chase the ice cream truck. I mean, come on, ice cream is amazing; summer is hot; what else do you expect me to do?
#13. Cheer for the Lifeguard Competitions: This is so much fun to watch! These guys (and girls) row, swim, and compete against the lifeguards from other beaches to see who is better.
#14. Go Shopping at Martins: Take a swing through Martins Casuals in the heat of the day (or if you want to go shopping for a new bikini!)
#15. Party at Club Karma: As made famous on Jersey Shore, you too can hit up this club and party like Snooki.
#16. Watch as Many Sunrises & Sunsets as you can: Catch a beautiful sunrise over the ocean or a sunset over Barnegat Bay.
#17. Make a Sandcastle: You’re never too old for sandcastles (or their very fun cousin, drip castles!)
Jersey Shore Eats:
#18. Pizza: When you’re at the shore, pizza is a must. I’d recommend Little Mia’s…if you want to eat in, get there very early, otherwise you’ll have a wait!
#19. Jersey corn: Corn on the cob cannot be beat here…seriously, I look forward to it all year.
#20. Tomatoes: Perfect on bruschetta or just sliced up…can’t go wrong!
#21. Kohrs ice cream: These are the ice cream shops with orange and vanilla swirl—a Shore must-eat!
#22. The Music Man Ice Cream: Yes, I’m aware ice cream is listed more than once, but it’s summer and I like ice cream (if you haven’t gathered that yet.) Plus, if you get ice cream from the Music Man, you also get a singing show!
#23. Blueberries: Whether you opt to pick them yourself or stop by a market, Jersey blueberries are so fresh in the summer.
#24. Ridiculous Fried Food: You know the kind I’m talking about… fried peanut butter cups, fried Oreos, you name it…they fry it on the boardwalk Try and do this after the beach so you don’t walk around with a belly of fried food all day.
#25. Make-Your-Own Popsicle: My great-grandmother made these growing up, and they were perfect after a day at the beach. All you need are some small plastic cups, some wooden Popsicle sticks, and of course Popsicle ingredients (I vote for orange!)
Hotel Deals: My top choices are probably Priceline.com and Expedia.com (I’d recommend Tradewinds for a cheap, centrally located spot). Lavallette doesn’t have a ton of hotel options, so definitely check out Airbnb (my link will save you $$$ on your first stay)! If you can, I would definitely opt for an Airbnb walking distance to Lavallette Beach.
Cheap flights: I’d recommend searching through eDreams.net. They scan tons of different travel discount sites and feature special flight deals.
